Project Description:
The 3rd phase of this project will complete the rehabilitation of an existing building and develop bus platforms in the regional Intermodal Center. It will provide a 9,000 square foot multimodal transfer facility at 9th and Marine Drive in downtown Astoria. Service providers will include SETD, Pacific County Transit, two private motorcoach services to Portland via US 26 and US 30, the Astoria Riverfront Trolley, taxis, bicycles, private tour operators, and tour ships. It will also give visitors access to public restrooms, visitor information, travel agents, refreshments, and a community policing center. No such facility exists in the region.

This project is rated #1 in Clatsop County's SCERT process, receiving unanimous support from Clatsop County Commission, the Astoria City Council, the Port of Astoria and Fort Clatsop National Memorial. |
Project Status:
SETD general funds and commitments of funds by the City of Astoria match to two earmarked federal appropriations in the last two years. Federal funds have been committed: a $225,000 FHWA appropriation for design and engineering (currently underway) and a $300,000 FTA appropriation for site acquisition. The NEPA review process is being completed and the 5309 FTA grant application has been submitted. Design and acquisition is expected to be completed by December 31, 2000. |

Strong partnerships are being formed between the local and state agencies in Clatsop and Pacific Counties. This project is vital to disperse visitors around the region during the Lewis & Clark Bicentennial. A similar project is being planned across the Columbia River in Ilwaco, Washington where an intermodal center planned, acting as the connector point between the two counties. Project ranked 4 of 9 in Clatsop County. |
