Project Description:
The Morrow County Heritage Trail will be a multi-use trail stretching from the east to the west borders of the county, paralleling the Columbia River. The Trail includes two Lewis & Clark campsites, Sand Island and Crow Butte, and will incorporate Lewis & Clark interpretation. Portions of the trail will be located along a county road but most of it will be on federal lands along the Columbia River. The Trail will serve primarily pedestrians and bicycles; two segments will also accommodate equestrians.

Support:
Morrow County has committed in-kind services for planning and construction. A Trail Advisory Committee is undertaking fund-raising and donations of labor and materials. The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation were involved in development of the Plan and will be involved in interpretive efforts. The sponsors listed will also be part of the implementation. |
Project Status:
A concept plan was completed in June, 2000. The next step is to formalize the Interagency Cooperative Agreement, to install trail markers, develop design and alignment specifications and to secure funding.
