Project Description:
The commission of a bronze statue commemorating the area where Lewis & Clark encountered the greatest concentration of Native Americans along the expedition trail. In the 1930s a Lewis & Clark memorial was commissioned but never completed. The unfinished base of the obelisk, still standing in Thompson Park, is a prime location for the statue. The primary goal is to construct a statue that reflects the area's heritage while providing an example of reconciliation and commemoration of how the expedition impacted history itself. Dedication is scheduled for spring 2005. |
