Project Description:
Project will develop historically significant Lewis & Clark Trail sites within CTUIR's aboriginal homeland, such as Hat Rock and Umatilla townsite. Project will 1) identify, interpret, and protect historical and cultural sites relevant to Corps of Discovery and Tribal history; 2) establish multi-use trails along Columbia River; and 3) promote regional tourism. The Homeland is eastern gateway for Lewis & Clark Trail in Oregon and includes public lands under jurisdiction of federal, tribal, state, and local governments/agencies. The project will: 1) research oral history, 2) develop interpretive content/locations, 3) establish trails, 4) create regional tourism strategy, and 5) create commemorative events.
