Project Description:
This project would establish a 500- to 1,000-acre national wildlife refuge on the Clatsop Plains' remnant coastal dunes between Gearhart and the southern boundary of Camp Rilea Military Reservation. The refuge would aid recovery of the threatened Oregon silverspot butterfly. It also would provide habitat for waterfowl, peregrine falcons, bald eagles, migrant songbirds, anadromous fish, and Roosevelt elk. This project would maintain the landscape and its plants and animals as they would have appeared to Lewis & Clark, and it complements the National Park Service proposed trail from Fort Clatsop to the Salt Works at Seaside. |
