Project Description:
The Lewis & Clark National Wildlife Refuge appears today virtually as it did at the time of Lewis & Clark's visit. Developments of 100 years ago, such as the dike and farm on Karlson Island, shoreline canneries, sawmills, and fishwheels, have faded away and been reclaimed by time and the river. The main threat to the islands and their wildlife today is the invasion of non-native vegetation. This project would control non-native vegetation, primarily Scotch broom and purple loosestrife, on the refuge. It involves mapping infestation sites and controlling the plants through both mechanical and biological means.
