Project Description:
Since the Lewis & Clark National Wildlife Refuge is only accessible by boat, it is difficult for the one collateral-duty law enforcement officer to spend much time there. With water sport use on the refuge, particularly kayaking, on the rise and increased visitation expected with the Bicentennial, the Service needs to have more presence. Increased visitation is leading to increased impacts on refuge resources, including unauthorized camping and wildlife disturbance. This project would provide a seasonal law enforcement officer, purchase a jet boat capable of staying afloat in rough weather conditions, and improved regulatory and boundary signing. |
