Project Description:
Chenowith Table is a 370-acre bluff overlooking the entire area of The Dalles and extending across the Columbia River and to the Columbia Hills and Mount Adams. The area now known as The Dalles was a major Native American trading center at the time of the Lewis & Clark visit and the Corps of Discovery camped at the Rock Fort site on the outward and return trips. Chenowith Table offers unique biscuit swales (mounded rock features averaging 9 ft. in diameter and 3 ft. in height), as well as pine/oak habitat and early spring wildflowers. It also offers unique plant communities and vernal pools. Its close proximity to schools and to the new Columbia Gorge Discovery Center makes it well suited for education, interpretation, and volunteer programs.
