Project Description:
The first annual Heritage Day, held on October 17, 1999, commemorated the day the Corps of Discovery camped off the shore of the Irrigon Marina Park and celebrated the official unveiling of the Heritage Trail Concept Plan. The second annual Heritage Day will be held on October 15, 2000, the Sunday closest to the actual October 19, 1805 date the Corps stopped in the county. The event includes a presentation by Lewis & Clark scholars, local tribes, and the Heritage Trail Committee status report, a pie social, historic re-enactors, costume parade, and Native American exhibits. In 2003-2005 the committee plans to host Clay Jenkinson, a Jeffersonian Scholar who performs as Thomas Jefferson and Meriwether Lewis. |
