Project Description:
Clatskanie is a small city along the Columbia River and the Lewis & Clark Trail with much history. An "oral history" program would interview people with a long history in the area to capture their knowledge on audio and/or video media and hire an author to write the history of this part of Columbia County starting with the Lewis & Clark expedition, continue with the Winship Trading Post, the Clatskanie Indians and others that met in the area, and the Benson Logging empire, adding the information and pictures gleaned through the oral history project. |
Project Budget:
Total: |
$ 50,000 |
Funded to Date: |
$ 0 |
Support:
Volunteers would conduct the interviews and copy photographs. Funds would pay an author to write the history and if possible do a video utilizing some of the interviews and pictures. The Mayor and City Manager commit time to assist with interviews and picture gathering. The community is supportive. |
Project Status:
With funding, the program could proceed fairly quickly. The City Manager has experience with this type of program. |

Other Comments:
Clatskanie has much history but it needs to be recorded. The City Manager, who conducted a similar effort while Mayor of Beaverton, Oregon, is willing to continue the project into retirement. |
