Salem, Oregon. The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department and its Oregon
Heritage Commission were allocated $300,000 in the 72nd Legislative Assembly
to direct funds to support commemorative projects associated with our
nation’s Lewis & Clark Bicentennial.
Lewis & Clark Bicentennial in Oregon (LCBO), a private, non-profit
501(c)(3) Oregon corporation, is the primary planning organization for
Oregon’s statewide Bicentennial efforts. LCBO and the Heritage
Commission have formed a joint committee to establish criteria for awarding
these funds and selecting the recipients. The funds will be disbursed
roughly in three programmatic areas: Tribal Programming, Community Programming
and Lasting Legacy/Stewardship Programming.
Projects supported by this grant fund shall address one or more of the
following criteria:
Support Oregon’s natural surroundings and existing tourist attractions,
and promote additional and sustained tourism that positively impacts
the Oregon economy
Uses the Lewis & Clark Expedition as an education window, increasing
awareness, understanding and appreciation of our nation’s history,
its diverse ideas, its native and immigrant peoples, and the varied languages
and cultures that were encountered before, during and after the Expedition
Leaves a lasting legacy beyond 2006
Promotes responsible stewardship of our environment and the protection
of cultural and natural resources on and off the Lewis and Clark Trail
